To apply for a work permit in Thailand, you will need a medical certificate. There are hospitals that charge thousands of Baht for that piece of paper. We know clinics that issue one at Baht 500.
These clinics use a finger prick blood test kit for syphilis. It takes only a few minutes to get the test result and 20 minutes for the doctor to issue the medical certificate for work permit.
Apart from checking the blood for syphilis, the doctor will certify that you don’t have mental illness, leprosy, tuberculosis, drug addiction, alcoholism and elephantitus.
Things to note for going to get a medical certificate:
- Take your passport with you. The doctor needs to verify that it is you who he is checking.
- There is no need to abstain from food or drinks for examination.
- Let the clinic know in advance if you need a corporate receipt to reimburse from your employer later.
- You should make an appointment in advance to save on the waiting time.
